Pools and Spas

Swimming Pools are considered an accessory residential use/structure and shall be in compliance with Sections 17.16.020 and 17.22.230 of the Hollister Municipal Code. Pool equipment shall be enclosed or screened from the street and adjoining property views.  

Required Setbacks for Swimming Pools 

Between pool and main house 

5 Feet 

Between pool and rear property line/fence 

5 Feet 

Between pool and side property line/fence 

5 Feet 

Between pool and other accessory structures 

5 Feet 

Swimming pools may be located in the rear or side yard of a property so long as the proposal meets the required minimum setbacks. Pools may not be located in the required front yard. 

Swimming pool equipment may not be located in the front yard or side yard and shall be located at least 10 feet from any window or other opening into a dwelling or other habitable building on an adjacent property.  

A detached spa will need to meet the requirements, setbacks, and lot coverage of Section 17.16.020 of the Hollister Municipal Code. Click here for more information on accessory residential structures.  

An attached spa will be considered an addition to the main unit and will need to meet the requirements for that individual Zoning District.
