Note: Please do not call 911 and then hang up. All 911 calls are recorded and the location of the caller is known. Because it is possible the call was terminated by criminal activity, an officer will be dispatched.
Priority One Calls: These are the most urgent and critical calls. They signify situations where there is an immediate threat to life or property. Examples include active crimes in progress, medical emergencies, fires, or situations where someone’s safety is in immediate jeopardy.
Priority Two Calls: These calls indicate that an event has occurred, but the suspect may have left the scene, or there is no imminent danger to life or property anymore. Examples could include reports of a burglary where the suspect has fled the scene, or a disturbance that has subsided by the time law enforcement arrives.
Priority Three Calls: These are non-emergency situations where there is property damage or the potential for it. While these situations are not immediately life-threatening, they still require police attention. Examples might include minor traffic accidents, vandalism, or noise complaints where there's no immediate danger but a police report may be needed for documentation or insurance purposes.
Priority Four Calls: These calls are the least urgent. They involve non-emergency situations where there is no present or potential damage to property, and the suspect has already left the scene. Examples could include requests for a police escort for non-emergency events, lost property reports, or situations where law enforcement presence is desired for reassurance but not immediately necessary for safety or property protection.
Each level of service call helps law enforcement prioritize their response based on the urgency and severity of the situation, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to address the most critical needs first.
