Fire Prevention Bureau

Community Preparedness
The Hollister Fire Department is committed to providing CPR instruction, disaster preparedness, and fire preparedness education to San Benito County residents and businesses. Through our fire prevention program, we strive to provide the community with the knowledge needed to act safely before, during, and after the fire. Station tours and public education talks are available upon request.

Fire Plan Review
The City of Hollister Fire Department has a dedicated prevention Bureau under the direction of the Fire Marshal. The Prevention Bureau's duties include Fire Prevention, Fire Investigation, and Public Education.

The Hollister Fire Prevention Bureau provides many services to the community. These services include pre-development consultation, fire life safety inspections, issuance of fire code permits, plan review for new construction and fire protection systems, conducting fire hydrant flow testing, weed abatement, issues burn permits in the LRA (Local Response Area), and responds to citizen complaints.  The bureau administers the Knox Key Safe program for commercial and residential units.

Fire Investigation Team
The Hollister Fire Department Investigators work to determine the origin and cause of fires. The unit performs fire scene investigations, collects and maintains evidence, conducts interviews with witnesses and suspects, makes arrests in collaboration with law enforcement, and files criminal charges with the District Attorney's office. The Fire Investigation Task Force comprises members from the Hollister Fire Department, the Hollister Police Department, and the San Benito County Sheriff's Office.

Wildfire Protection
Stopping wildfires before they begin is one of our biggest priorities. This includes weed abatement and defensible space. We have established and enforce a minimum standard for weed abatement throughout the County. Defensible space around one’s home is also a requirement. Both help to reduce the spread of fire to and from a structure. If you live on the outskirts of town, a great way to prepare for wildfires and protect the homes around you is by becoming a Firewise Community! For more information, visit readyforwildfire.org
